Then with his Uncles Council, they will take control and monitor the safety of the young boy as they embark on several journeys to a remote, secluded area where “the awakening” quest will be enacted. During time of preparation, the older uncle’s council will Influence and lead him through a disciplined routine of daily activities appointed for a certain purpose. Ancestral knowledge tells us that a boy grows into maturity and integrity only through strict procedures and rituals, utilizing the "vision quest" for this reason. Another restriction traditionally practiced is fasting. Fasting is one of the oldest and finest. The young man’s psyche is opened to plan by the elements and rhythms of the natural world. Without food in his belly, he orients himself to the harmony and proportion of his Mother, compensating for loss of strength by applying the muscle of spirit. She rushes in to teach him about surrender. A man who does not know the power of surrender does not possess true power.
